Josephine McKelvy

Senior Consultant

Josephine has a background in studying inequality through a sociological lens, interrogating how biases show up in our beliefs, norms, interactions, cultures, and institutions. She is committed to translating her qualitative and quantitative social science research skills to advance systemic social change.

At Equal Measure, Josephine serves as a senior consultant, contributing her expertise in mixed-methods research and project management to a variety of project teams working toward place-based and collective impact investments in early literacy, youth economic opportunity, and health equity.

Before joining Equal Measure, Josephine served as an evaluation research scientist at UNC-Chapel Hill. In that capacity, she monitored and tracked initiatives focused on academic-community partnerships to reduce COVID-19 testing disparities, public health workforce development, and equity-centered training for early-career physician scientists. Her transition from academia to evaluation started with a usability research internship as well as research assistantships at NC State University and Duke University—documenting experiences of food insecurity from low-income mothers and assessing growth and satisfaction with a women’s leadership program.
