Building on a 40-year legacy in the social justice field, we’re ushering in a new chapter to advance racial equity and systems change.

Our Journey

Equal Measure envisions a society where race does not dictate life outcomes. We are committed to fortifying our partners’ work to build equitable communities and to dismantle the systems that perpetuate racism. We aim to elevate our partners through knowledge building about the root causes of racial inequities through our “superpowers” of evaluation, strategy, and communications. We’ll become the megaphone for shifting narratives around structural racism and creating safe spaces for meaningful dialogue across sectors.

In collaboration with Black- and women-led firms like The Collective Good and ThirdSpace Action Lab, we began this strategic journey in February 2022. The process underscored our need for an unequivocal focus on racial equity and repositioning our messaging to emphasize this commitment.

In our Strategic Framework, conceived as a living plan, we demonstrate how our new mission—to strengthen the knowledge and capacity of our partners—is supported by three goals:

Leveraging Thought Leadership

We aim to underscore the importance of using our data-driven insights to effect social change. Here, we’ll build a compelling communications, marketing, and branding strategy to amplify our unique value proposition—ensuring our work resonates with partners and wider audiences.

Diversifying Partnerships

We aim to align our business development strategies with our organizational aims. We’re committed to expanding our business model and diversifying our portfolio, with the goal to ensure the longevity of our mission.

Engaging in Continuous Learning and Capacity Building

We aim to evolve as a learning organization. From strengthening equity-focused project methodologies to enhancing our professional development, we’re investing in the continuous development of our talent and resources.

These goals are the cornerstone of Equal Measure’s Strategic Plan and guide the four pillars of our Theory of Change:

  • Knowledge Building: Facilitating stakeholder discussions to unearth systemic inequities.
  • Narrative Change: Offering insightful, data-driven perspectives that foster equity.
  • Convening: Inspiring concerted action on racial equity issues.
  • Capacity Building: Equipping our partners to actively advocate for change.

The terrain of social change is evolving, which is why our Strategic Plan incorporates key performance indicators to actively measure our progress and impact. Although initially set for three years, we’re committed to a five-year plan that we will continuously revise as we learn, make progress, and adapt to the changing world.
