Position Summary/Overview of Position

As part the organization’s overall business development strategy and process, the Business Development Manager, in collaboration with the organization’s executive and senior leadership team, is responsible for driving the growth and expansion of Equal Measure’s business development by identifying new business opportunities, fostering relationships with potential clients, and nurturing existing partnerships. This individual will also be responsible for managing the day-to-day business development activities within the organization, including the proposal development process. The Business Development Manager will work closely with senior leadership to develop and implement strategies that align with the company’s overall vision, mission, and work as we implement a new strategic plan that promotes successful fiscal outcomes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Help develop and execute the business development strategy, aligning with Equal Measure’s mission to strengthen the knowledge and capacity of our partners to transform systems, eliminate racial disparities, and build more equitable communities.
  • Work in partnership with the executive and senior leadership teams, to understand and recommend opportunities to enhance overall business development strategies that align with Equal Measure’s racial equity mission and assess successful choices in type of client/work, length of contracts, and client satisfaction.
  • Work with executive team to create performance metrics to track progress and measure success.
  • Organize and manage proposal process and RFPs tailored to prospective clients’ specific needs and requirements.
  • Partner with Communications/Marketing team to assure high-quality proposals and business development marketing products, and alignment with Equal Measure’s brand.
  • Conduct market research to identify emerging trends, industry opportunities, competitive positioning, and innovative partnerships that help Equal Measure realize its bold vision of a society where race no longer predicts one’s life outcomes.
  • Develop and execute the business development strategy, aligning it with Equal Measure’s bold vision and mission over the next 3 to 5 years and in consideration of strategic KPIs.
  • Track and manage leads generated and identify potential clients through various channels, including networking events, referrals, and online research, all while assessing effectiveness of proactive and reactive forms of business development.
  • Manage, edit, and maintain CRM software.
  • Work closely with communications/marketing, product, and operations teams to ensure effective product positioning, smooth service delivery, and timely implementation of business development strategies.
  • Prepare business development reports on (at minimum) a monthly basis, presenting key opportunities and feedback to senior management.
  • Utilize data analytics to gain insights into trends and opportunities, and make data-driven decisions to optimize proactive business development efforts.

Work Environment

  • Position is a full-time remote role
  • Occasional domestic travel (up to 20%)

Salary and Position Details

  • This is a full-time, exempt, benefits-eligible position.
  • Salary range: $68,401–$74,781

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing, or a related field. Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Proven experience of 5–7 years in business development, marketing, or sales, with a successful track record of achieving revenue targets. Nonprofit experience highly preferred.
  • Strong understanding and experience of racial equity, business, financial strategies; and proposal writing.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Leadership abilities, with experience in managing and motivating others.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients and key stakeholders.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in the professional services sector is a plus.
  • Proficiency in using CRM software and sales analytics tools.
