Position Summary

The primary role will be providing analytic support across multiple projects. The successful candidate will have a deep commitment to Equal Measure’s mission to strengthen the knowledge and capacity of its partners to transform systems, eliminate disparities, and build equitable communities. The individual will be a self-starter with strong data analysis and communication skills, a solid background in mixed-methods research or evaluation, and between 3 and 5 years of experience in evaluation or research.

Key Responsibilities

The primary role of the research analyst will be to use various methodologies to manage, gather, and analyze data, which will be used to produce deliverables and/or communicate findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Quantitative Research: Implement quantitative methodologies, including surveys and secondary analysis, as well as conduct descriptive and inferential statistical analyses. Use dashboards, models, and data visualizations while ensuring quality control, data integrity, and adherence to best practices in data management.
  • Qualitative Research: Conduct qualitative data collection (interviews, focus groups, literature reviews, landscape scans, and field observations). Develop interview guides, protocols, and coding frameworks to analyze qualitative data using thematic analysis, grounded theory, or other established approaches.
  • Mixed-methods Research: Integrate quantitative and qualitative data in mixed-method studies to produce comprehensive, actionable insights, and triangulate findings across data sources to strengthen conclusions and recommendations. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align research into clear and actionable deliverables that align with client goals. Contribute to logic models, theories of change, frameworks, and data visualizations to synthesize insights into clear themes and narratives.
  • Project Participation: Support project administration, including scheduling meetings and coordinating data collection activities. Support the preparation and writing of proposals, memos, issue briefs, presentations, and reports, including conducting literature searches; synthesizing findings; fact checking; and preparing documentation such as figures, charts, and tables. Engage with clients and other stakeholders. Travel related to project work (20-25%).
  • Organizational Participation: Participate actively in organizational committees and organizational development.

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with 3-5 years of experience
  • At least two years of applied experience with qualitative and quantitative research methods, including: knowledge of design methods in the social sciences; experience cleaning quantitative data (merging, creating new variables, recoding); and experience with quantitative analyses (descriptives, correlations, ANOVA, and linear regression)
  • Background in research, evaluation, and/or consulting; experience working in one or more of the following areas: community development, education reform, asset building, health and human services systems, and organizational development
  • Experience developing interview protocols for focus groups with diverse audiences, coding, and thematic analysis—synthesizing and analytically questioning the findings and/or data
  • Experience conducting literature and document reviews and composing clear written summaries
  • Strong analytical writing skills, as well as excellent oral communication and presentation skills
  • Adept at working with a variety of technology platforms, including project management and tracking systems such as Smartsheet; Microsoft applications; qualitative data analysis software, such as Dedoose; survey platforms, such as Qualtrics; and statistical programming languages, such as SAS, SPSS, Stata, or R
  • Ability to set priorities and effectively manage various tasks across multiple project activities to meet deadlines in a fast-paced professional services environment
  • Ability to take initiative and work both independently as well as closely with team members to establish collaborative interpersonal relationships, and contribute to overall project and organizational goals
  • Excellent analytical skills and problem-solving capability

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or at least 3 years of direct experience preferred (experience can include post-graduate internships in education, sociology, social work, public administration, statistics, or related fields)
  • Experience developing and administering surveys, analyzing survey results, analyzing secondary data (e.g., large public data sets), and data visualizations

Salary and Position Details

  • This is a full-time, exempt, and benefit-eligible position.
  • The starting salary range for this position is $60K–$70K—term appointment of two years with the opportunity to renew.
  • Equal Measure is based in Philadelphia, PA. Currently, the position is primarily remote with periodic opportunities to be in person.
