Arts Education for All: Lessons from the First Half of the Ford Foundation’s National Arts Education Initiative

In 2004, the Ford Foundation launched the National Arts Education Initiative – a bold and forward-looking effort to address issues of equity and access in arts education.

The initiative advances a new and significant framework for achieving the goal of increasing access to quality integrated arts.  In this report, OMG discusses the philosophical and strategic underpinnings of the initiative; describes successes and challenges faced by initiative participants as they work to strengthen and mobilize constituencies; and shares illuminating stories and profiles that bring to life efforts of practitioners to reform arts education within their local communities.
